Sweater Pilling Is Not Entirely Your Fault (Or The Sweater's) Pilling is a natural occurrence in cashmere and is usually caused by friction. A seat belt, purse strap, or even the synthetic lining of a jacket can all contribute. Use a cashmere comb, sweater stone, or other depiller to gently brush these unsightly fluffballs away. 2. Wash Cashmere With Your Shampoo The care label may read “dry clean only,” but hand washing your cashmere sweater will actually make it softer over time. We recommend using baby shampoo, it works like a charm! Use lukewarm water, gently swirl your sweater, and let it soak for up to 30 minutes. To dry, place the cashmere in its original shape on a dry-clean towel. Gently roll up the garment and towel together. Do not wring or twist. On a separate dry towel, lay the cashmere down and smooth it back to its original shape again. 3. Always Fold Your Cashmere Cashmere pieces are unlike other sweaters you have, hanging them in the closet will change their shape. When storing cashmere sweaters, always fold them and lay them flat in a wardrobe or dresser.
